Maria Teresa Capacchione

Contemporary art, photography and India. This mix of passions has made me (also) an independent curator specialized in Indian contemporary art. Thanks to a long and assiduous attendance of the Sub Continent, I had the pleasure and honor to meet the best artists, gallery owners and curators of this country.

After graduating in Foreign Languages and Literature with a thesis in art history, I obtained a master’s degree in Communication and later a specialization as “Head of Cultural Projects” at the Fitzcarraldo Foundation in Turin.

From 2005 to 2008 I was Artistic Director of the San Lo’ Arte space in Rome where I curated photography exhibitions.

From 2008 to 2011 I collaborated with the Z2O gallery in Rome with the aim of making known to art lovers and collectors, some of the most interesting artists of the Indian scene such as Bharat Sikka (in collaboration with the Otto Zoo gallery in Milan), Baba Anand (with the collaboration of Matthieu Foss, curator); Archana Hande (in collaboration with the gallery Nature Morte in Delhi) and Annu Palakunnathu Matthew (in collaboration with the SepiaEye gallery in New York). I curated two exhibitions within the 2006 and 2007 editions of Photography Rome International Festival, for the exhibition Metropolis in the circuit of the Rome Film Festival 2007 and within the Festival of Two Worlds of Spoleto (2008).

In 2014 I was invited to Calcutta by Abhishek Basu Contemporary Faudation (A.B.C.) for a Residency for Curators.

I’m head of communication in a service company and as a journalist I write about Indian contemporary art and photography on Exibart magazine.
